A Nigerian man has been brought back to London to face charges in connection with the 2018 murder of a 23-year-old trainee engineer. Matthew Adebiyi, aged 25, was extradited to London and immediately taken into custody for the fatal stabbing of Joshua Boadu, also known as SJ, who was attacked in broad daylight on Linsey Street in Bermondsey, south east London, on June 11, 2018.
Joshua sustained critical injuries to his chest, neck, and arm during the attack. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he suffered a heart attack en route, and his life support was eventually switched off ten days later. Adebiyi was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Previously, two individuals were convicted of Joshua’s murder, with a 27-year-old and a 16-year-old boy from Southwark receiving sentences at the Old Bailey in September 2019.
In response to the 2019 convictions, Joshua’s family expressed their ongoing grief, stating that his passing had left an irreplaceable void in their lives. They highlighted the devastating impact of the senseless act of violence on their family, emphasizing Joshua’s promising future that was tragically cut short by a brutal and inexplicable murder.
Following Joshua’s untimely death, his father Frank described him as a compassionate and ambitious young man who had a bright future ahead. Frank lamented the violence plaguing London’s streets and expressed disbelief at the senseless nature of his son’s stabbing.
Joshua’s sister, Lady, also condemned the knife crime that claimed her brother’s life, urging for an end to such violence. She emphasized the unfairness of the situation and called for a collective effort to stop the use of knives in violent acts. A close friend remembered Joshua as a kind-hearted individual who enjoyed house music, possessed intelligence, and was beloved by many.
Joshua, along with his family, had plans to embark on a dream trip to Canada the day after the tragic incident.
