Team GB is aiming for a record-breaking performance at the upcoming Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. UK Sport, the organization funding Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK, anticipates Team GB will secure between four to eight medals in northern Italy, surpassing their previous best showings at the Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 Games where they won five medals, including one gold.

The optimism surrounding Team GB’s performance at the forthcoming Winter Olympics is fueled by the impressive lineup of athletes heading to Italy. The team comprises world champions, X Games gold medallists, and athletes who have stood on the podium at World Cup events. In the 2024/25 season, British winter athletes captured nine World Championship medals across various disciplines.

British skiers and snowboarders have achieved significant success in Olympic events, with 28 major podium finishes, three Crystal Globes (overall World Cup titles), and a World Championship title, secured by Zoe Atkin. Chef de mission Eve Muirhead, a curling gold medallist from 2022, noted the meticulous preparations in place to ensure athletes are primed for success at the Winter Olympics.

The spotlight is on Team GB’s top contenders in men’s skeleton, men’s and mixed curling, skiing, and snowboarding disciplines as they aim for medals in Italy. Notably, double men’s skeleton world champion Weston and Muir, a two-time World Cup gold medallist, are among the frontrunners expected to excel. Snowboarder Brookes, Atkin, and Bankes, all accomplished in their respective fields, are also poised to make their mark at the Games.

Additionally, figure skaters Fear and Gibson are positioned to potentially secure Britain’s first Olympic figure skating medal since 1994. With a track record of European medals and Grand Prix Final accomplishments, the duo carries high expectations for a podium finish at the Winter Olympics.

Amidst these high hopes and talented athletes, the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from February 6-22, offering fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. The £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription will grant access to TNT Sports 2, the channel broadcasting continuous Olympic coverage throughout the games.
