Winter Olympics star Lindsey Vonn displayed unwavering support for Team USA despite a tragic crash during the Games. Her teammate, Breezy Johnson, revealed that Vonn cheered her on from a helicopter after being airlifted following her fall at Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Vonn, 41, made a comeback at the Winter Olympics after a hiatus since 2018 and skipping the 2022 Games. Unfortunately, her return was marred by a serious injury when she collided with a flag marker during the downhill event.

The incident was especially heartbreaking as Vonn had recently undergone surgery for a severe ACL rupture in her left knee just before her Olympic return. While some criticized the decision to let her compete, others commended her resilience and spirit.

Johnson, 30, won gold in the race, finishing ahead of Germany’s Emma Aicher by a mere 0.04 seconds, securing her first Olympic medal. She became the second American to achieve this feat, following Vonn’s gold in the same event in 2010.

Vonn’s distressing crash elicited an emotional response from BBC commentator Chemmy Alcott, who was moved to tears describing the scene. Johnson, on the other hand, sent a heartfelt message of support to Vonn amid her own triumph.

Despite the challenges, Johnson’s victory marked another milestone in her career, building on her success at the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships where she claimed multiple titles. With Vonn’s encouragement, Johnson’s outstanding performance secured her a well-deserved spot on the podium.

In a recent social media exchange, Johnson defended Vonn’s decision to compete despite her injury, highlighting that many athletes have overcome similar obstacles without public knowledge. This episode showcased the camaraderie and determination within the skiing community.
