Donald Trump has once again criticized the UK, this time regarding North Sea oil exploration. The US president expressed frustration over the UK’s decision not to pursue new drilling activities in the North Sea, claiming that “Europe is in need of energy.” Trump, in a passionate outburst on Truth Social, accused the UK of neglecting the opportunity to tap into one of the world’s significant oil reserves, deeming the situation “tragic” and emphasizing that Aberdeen should be experiencing economic prosperity.

Furthermore, he insinuated that Norway is capitalizing on selling North Sea energy to the UK at inflated rates. Trump urged the UK to “DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!!” while also reiterating his objection to the presence of wind turbines in Scotland.

In a written statement, he highlighted, “Europe is desperate for Energy, and yet the United Kingdom refuses to open North Sea Oil, one of the greatest fields in the World.” Trump emphasized the need for the UK to take action and criticized the current state of affairs.

Contrary to Trump’s stance, the UK government has halted the issuance of new licenses for oil and gas exploration in the North Sea. The government’s decision is based on the belief that prioritizing the expansion of domestic clean energy sources is crucial for long-term energy security.

Trump’s remarks coincide with Ed Miliband’s caution against the expansion of North Sea drilling as a solution to reducing energy costs for UK households. Miliband emphasized the importance of moving away from fossil fuels, citing the ongoing Middle East conflict as a reminder of the risks associated with reliance on volatile energy markets.

In a separate development, Trump’s recent directive to impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports on Monday led to a surge in energy prices. Prime Minister Keir Starmer distanced the UK from this escalation, emphasizing that the UK does not support such actions and advocating for the Strait to remain open to avoid being drawn into a broader conflict. Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to diplomatic efforts to ensure the free passage through the Strait and clarified the UK’s stance on operational matters related to the blockade.
