Critics, including journalists Megan Basham and Isabel Brown from the Daily Wire, condemned the image as blasphemous and inappropriate. Basham demanded Trump take down the picture and issue an apology to the American people and God.
Trump later clarified that the image was meant to portray him as a doctor supporting the Red Cross’ humanitarian efforts. Despite the backlash, he stood by his actions and expressed his disapproval of Pope Leo’s stance on various issues, including the US-Israel conflict in Iran.
