Nigel Farage has been criticized as a “false patriot” who lacks integrity and principles, earning him public disapproval. TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak accused the leader of Reform UK of scheming to diminish the rights of millions of people through shallow tactics and performances.

Despite Reform UK’s current lead in the polls, Mr. Nowak expressed confidence that voters will turn away from them once they become more familiar with Mr. Farage. Mr. Nowak emphasized that stripping away rights from fellow citizens does not align with patriotism or advocating for the working class.

In a scathing critique, Mr. Nowak highlighted Mr. Farage’s absence from his constituency, Clacton, and criticized his focus on attention-grabbing maneuvers over addressing substantive issues that matter to the majority of people. Mr. Nowak pointed out that the constituents in Clacton support measures like banning zero hours contracts and fire and rehire practices, as well as protecting employment rights – contrasting with Mr. Farage’s stance.

Mr. Nowak also condemned Mr. Farage’s intention to dismantle Labour’s worker rights package, including protections against exploitative employment practices and enhanced benefits. He acknowledged the disillusionment driving some voters to support Reform but urged the government to take action to sway them from aligning with Mr. Farage’s agenda.

In response, a spokesperson for Reform UK defended Mr. Farage, citing the party’s consistent lead in opinion polls and their recent electoral successes as evidence of public support.
