The 2025 January transfer window has arrived – and several of the Premier League’s top clubs are looking to act.
Manchester United are in desperate need of reinforcements amid their struggles so far and Ruben Amorim is well aware of the work required. There are a lack of funds though which complicate their situation and sales may be required first with Marcus Rashford’s future still yet to be resolved.
Leaders Liverpool have some decisions to make themselves. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk can now engage in talks with foreign clubs but the club are negotiating new deals for the pair. Real Madrid have also made their first move in their attempt to try and lure Trent Alexander-Arnold – with an offer being rejected.
Arsenal are eyeing the title at the third attempt but they need some more firepower and a hefty shortlist has been compiled. Champions Manchester City, who are almost certainly surrendering their title, want a strong second half of the season but may need a new face or two to cover for their injury problems.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis says that he’ll give boss Nuno Espirito Santo what he needs ensure European football this season.
Forest are currently second in the Premier League, with Nuno transforming their fortunes over the past 12 months.
“We will do whatever is needed to be stronger and of course our coach will decide what he really needs,” Marinakis said at the Globe Soccer Dubai Awards. “We must keep the same spirit and same environment in the dressing room and all our players this year have the right spirit. This is a very good climate we should try our very best not to interrupt it.
“It is an important achievement because in all positions we have players who perform or even over-perform. For us this is our first priority â keep the momentum, keep winning and continue to enjoy the journey.”
Newcastle are ready to join Liverpool in the race to sign Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling.
Dibling, 18, has been the silver lining in Southampton’s miserable season but only has 18 months left on his contract.
The ex-Chelsea prospect is now being eyed by multiple Premier League clubs and the Sun have named both Newcastle and Liverpool as seriously interested.
Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a move for Arsenal centre-back William Saliba.
The 23-year-old has fast become one of the world’s most coveted defenders under Mikel Arteta.
Despite signing a new long-contract with Arsenal last year, Spanish outlet Fichajes report that Saliba is wanted by Madrid.
Club president Florentino Perez views the France international as his ‘dream’ signing.
Fulham are worried that French giants Marseille will make a fresh bid for Andreas Pereira this month.
Marseille tried their luck with a £20million last summer and Pereira has since admitted that he’d be interested in joining them.
The Times report that Brazilian side Palmeiras are also keen, although they could be priced out by Marseille’s proposal.
The 29-year-old, who joined Fulham from Manchester United in 2022, only has 18 months left on his contract.
Tottenham are stepping up their shock interest in Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Molineux chiefs are open to offers for their £10million summer signing, who has failed to make an impression in the Black Country and remains second in command to Jose Sa.
Spurs No.1 Guglielmo Vicario is expected to be sidelined until at least the end of this month – at the earliest – after he was forced to undergo surgery on a fractured foot sustained in the 4-0 win at Man City in November.

Kyle Walker has interest from three Saudi Arabian clubs amid his struggles for Manchester City.
The 34-year-old right-back has been part of City’s ailing title defence and is linked with an exit.
A report from the Sun states that Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad are all keen on signing Walker either this month or in the summer.
England international Walker has 18 months left on his contract and City wouldn’t be against selling him at the right price.
AC Milan are yet to make contact with Liverpool over a potential move for Darwin Nunez.
Nunez, 25, has been linked with an initial loan move to San Siro, with a £41.5million obligation to buy included in the rumoured proposal.
But the Mail report that Liverpool are yet to hear from Milan chiefs, despite reports from Italy claiming otherwise.
Manchester United want-away Marcus Rashford has REJECTED three offers from Saudi Arabia, each worth £35million per year, the Times report.
United are willing to let Rashford, 27, leave this month but he’s so far not keen on a move to the Saudi Pro League, despite being offered nearly £675,000-a-week.
Juventus management director Cristiano Giuntoli has responded to claims that his club are plotting a move for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee.
Zirkzee, 23, joined United from Bologna in July but the Dutchman has failed to live up to his £34million price tag.
Juve have been linked but their transfer chief remains tight-lipped.
“It is not appropriate to mention names but we are keeping an eye on any interesting opportunities,” Giuntoli said.

Aston Villa have submitted a fresh proposal to Borussia Dortmund after their initial â¬16million (£13.2m) bid for Donyell Malen was rejected.
Dutch forward Malen, 25, wants to leave Dortmund, who are ready to facilitate his departure.
Sky Germany report that the Bundesliga giants want at least â¬20m (£16.5m) plus add-ons.
Frenkie de Jong says that he’d only quit Barcelona if he was no longer contributing on the pitch.
De Jong, 27, rejected Manchester United in 2022, despite the two clubs agreeing a fee.
It was suggested that the Dutch midfielder only wanted to stay because of life off the pitch in Barcelona, but he’s now told Voetbal International: “People think I want to stay at Barcelona forever because life outside of football is so good here, and that’s good, but what happens on the pitch is always more important.
“If I felt like I couldn’t contribute enough, or if the team wasn’t competitive, I would leave.”
De Jong has struggled for minutes this season under new manager Hansi Flick.
Turkish giants Galatasaray are tracking Leroy Sane.
The Bayern Munich star is out of contract at the end of the season and has also been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United recently.
Fotomac claim that Galatasaray are seeking a meeting with the winger’s agent ahead of a potential transfer.
West Brom have recalled Caleb Taylor from his loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers.
The highly-rated centre-back, 21, has been in fine form for the Chairboys, who are currently top of League One.
He made 21 appearances in total during his time away from the Hawthorns and will now try to force his way into West Brom’s plans.
Chelsea may have to get creative in order to offload Ben Chilwell this month, with the defender refusing to take a pay cut to leave the club.
Chilwell joined Chelsea in a £50million move from Leicester in 2020 and still has two and a half years left on his contract worth £190,000 per week. He has been frozen out of the first team by Enzo Maresca, who has made it clear he doesnât have a future at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old is frustrated by the lack of game time but is equally unwilling to surrender his lucrative contract. The Sun believe Chelsea may now need to pay off Chilwell with a severance package to offload him in January, or, at the very least, arrange a heavily subsidised loan deal.
Mika Biereth has agreed to join French giants AS Monaco.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that a deal still needs to be agreed between the club and Sturm Graz, who signed Biereth from Arsenal in the summer for just £4million.
The 21-year-old has scored 15 goals in 25 games for Sturm Graz this term.
Aston Villa are eyeing a January deal for Donyell Malen.
Villa have held talks about potentially bringing him in over the January transfer window. A £25million package is being discussed with the German outfit as Unai Emery looks to bring in a new winger, which is a priority position this month for the Champions League outfit, reports the Telegraph.
Malen has fallen down the pecking order in the Bundesliga and Dortmund are open to his sale. The 25-year-old, once of PSV, previously had two years in Arsenal’s academy, but his period at the club never crossed with Emery. Last term Malen scored 15 times for the German outfit.
Miguel Almiron is set to bring his Newcastle nightmare to an end after an ex-Premier League winner confirmed talks for the winger.
The Paraguayanâs opportunities have dried up at St Jamesâ Park this season. He has made just one Premier League start this season and has just 18 months remaining on his deal.
Newcastle have been trying to move on the 30-year-old in order to make space in their squad. And it now appears that a deal has been struck. According to The Sun, MLS side Charlotte FC have agreed a £16m deal for Almiron. The Paraguayan was linked with the club in the summer but saw a move collapse.
Man Utd will make an approach to sign Viktor Gyokeres this month rather than wait until the summer.
The Sporting Lisbon striker, 26, was always likely to attract interest from his former boss, Ruben Amorim, after he was appointed as United’s new head coach back in November. But a move for the Sweden star was pencilled in for the summer, not now.
Those plans have changed, though. Amorim has told United’s powerbrokers that they need to sign Gyokeres now given their struggles in the Premier League, say The Star.
He told Sky Sports: “If I was Arsenal and had the money, Iâd go out and buy [Alexander] Isak. Iâd break the bank for him. Heâs the best of the best and takes Arsenal to another level.
“What I like about Jesus is heâs got back into the team and said âthis time round, Iâm going to get in the box and score goals. If Iâm going to stay in this team, I need to score goalsâ and thatâs what heâs done.
“The goal against Brentford was a proper poachers goal and itâs rare we see him in the six yard box, heading them in.”
William Saliba’s camp have responded positively after being approached by Real Madrid.
The France international has established himself as a key part of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI and as one of the standout defenders in the Premier League since breaking into the side in 2022/23. Despite the Gunners’ impressive consistency, Saliba has yet to earn silverware in north London after twice narrowly missing out on the Premier League title.
Real Madrid have been persistently linked with the 23-year-old and according to reports in Spain, have now made him their ‘priority target’. Los Blancos are aware they must break records to secure a deal for the defender, per Sport.
Trent Alexander-Arnold could end up earning £100million if he does move to Real Madrid.
The Liverpool right-back is the subject of a tug-of-war as the two European giants battle in the market. Liverpool have seen Alexander-Arnold’s contract wind down and he’s six months away from leaving for free, which has opened the door for Real.
They’ve seen a £20m offer rejected but hope to secure a pre-contract agreement. The Reds though still harbour hopes that their academy graduate will choose to pen a new deal.
Real are ready to offer a huge financial package to lure Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital. They prepared to give the England right back a hefty increase on the £180,000-a-week wages he currently earn, but the huge earner would be the signing-on fee, reports The Sun.
Barcelona sporting director Deco believes a deal to land Liverpool’s winger Luis Diaz can be struck.
The 27-year-old, who has been an impressive performer under Arne Slot, is unhappy that talks have not started over an improved contract at Anfield according to Sport.
Ruben Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper in the wake of Andre Onana’s inconsistent performances.
United paid out big money to sign the Cameroon international from Inter Milan back in the summer of 2022 but Onana has made a catalogue of high-profile errors since moving to Old Trafford.
And while the 28-year-old has been in better form so far this season, Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper to push him in 2025, according to The Manchester Evening News.
Barcelona have desperately been trying to register Dani Olmo beyond 2024, but have now had two attempts and an appeal rejected.
La Liga released a statement on Tuesday evening which read: “FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with La Liga’s economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player after 2 January.”
Barcelona have not given up, though, with the club announcing that they have “applied for a new license” from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to register Olmo and his teammate Pau Victor.
It remains to be seen whether they will be successful and a number of clubs are monitoring the situation, with recent reports stating that Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all interested in Olmo’s services.
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan told the Daily Mail: “Though a lot of Reds fans are unhappy at their local hero contemplating a life away from Anfield, Liverpoolâs potential loss could be the countryâs gain.
Being a member of the Madrid superstar club has not done Jude Bellingham any harm, has it? For Trent, Real Madrid is a huge opportunity and I wouldnât blame him for taking it.
“Trent has had a full apprenticeship at Liverpool, rightly received accolades as a Premier League and Champions League winner, and earned the right to choose if his destiny lies abroad. If he moves, there would be a backlash from some quarters who seem to expect any homegrown talent to spend their entire career with one club, which is ridiculous in this day and age.”
Casemiro is said to be ready to consider a move in January as clubs in the Saudi Pro League weigh up a move for the veteran midfielder.
The Brazil star, 32, has come in for criticism over the past 18 months after a drop in form. And that has led to speculation that United would like to offload the veteran’s substantial salary despite the fact he impressed during his first season at Old Trafford.
According to Brazilian outlet UOL, there are as many as six Saudi Pro League clubs in the running to sign Casemiro, including Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
The 28-year-old is frustrated by the lack of game time but is equally unwilling to surrender his lucrative contract to help out the club who handed it to him. The Sun therefore reports that Chelsea may need to pay off Chilwell with a severance package, or arrange a heavily subsidised loan deal to shift him to another club in the January transfer window.
Real Madrid remain on confident they will land Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer on a free transfer as the 26-year-old looks to leave Liverpool.
The Spanish giants want the England star to sign a pre-contract agreement sooner rather than later to avoid the possibility of him changing his mind, reports Relevo.
Liverpool, who rejected Real’s offer to take him in January, retain hope he will remain at Anfield.
