Tesco will be offering complimentary beverages and snacks this weekend for visitors who stop by designated parking spots at select stores. The supermarket is introducing exclusive Park & Pause bays at ten locations on Saturday, April 11. Guests can enjoy a free Tesco Finest hot drink and a biscuit at these designated areas.
The initiative aims to provide a relaxing break for shoppers post-Easter, with research indicating that 42% of Brits seek moments of solitude by visiting supermarkets. Tesco representatives will deliver refreshments to car windows at the Park & Pause locations between 8am and 5pm, marked by a stopwatch symbol.
Statistics show that parents with children under four are most likely to utilize a Tesco visit as a means to have some personal time, with a rate of 68%, nearly double that of individuals without kids at 38%.
The launch of Park & Pause spaces aligns with Tesco’s latest “Need anything from Tesco?” campaign. This move follows a recent incident at Tesco’s Kirkwall branch in Orkney, where an excess order of bananas led to the distribution of thousands of free bananas to local community groups and schools instead of discarding them.
In a dedicated Facebook group, Tesco’s community champion shared a photo of the surplus bananas and encouraged community groups to collect their free box. The supermarket emphasized that the banana donation adhered to its community policy, stating that all excess bananas had been redistributed to support local causes.
Furthermore, Tesco has implemented a pay increase for numerous employees as part of a substantial £200 million investment. Shop workers and online fulfillment center staff have seen a 5.1% pay raise, with hourly rates now at £13.28. In London, employees received an additional hourly allowance, raising their pay to £14.55 within the M25.
The Park & Pause spaces will be available at specified Tesco stores nationwide on April 11.
