Four teenagers have been apprehended in connection with a homicide case following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy close to a shopping center in Peterborough.

Law enforcement received a distress call just before 7 pm yesterday (Sunday, April 12) reporting an assault on a teenager in Riseholme, near the Ortongate Shopping Centre. Promptly, emergency services, including paramedics, rushed to the location, and the boy was swiftly transported to the hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

A police cordon has been established at the Orton Centre as authorities conduct their investigation, according to a report by Cambridgeshire Live.

In an official statement, the police disclosed that four individuals have been detained in connection with the tragic incident. Two suspects, a 15-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old man from Peterborough are in custody on suspicion of murder. Additionally, a 17-year-old girl from Peterborough and a 16-year-old girl from March have been arrested for allegedly aiding an offender and possession of a bladed article. All four are currently being held at Thorpe Wood Police Station.

Authorities have cordoned off the area around the Orton Centre to facilitate the ongoing police inquiries, with an increased presence of law enforcement expected in the vicinity in the coming days.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Stott from the Beds, Cambs, and Herts Major Crime Unit emphasized that the police do not view the incident as a random attack. He urged anyone with relevant information or CCTV footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Stott stated, “This is a tragic event resulting in the loss of a young life, and we are in close communication with the victim’s family, providing them with updates. While we recognize the concerns within the local community, we believe this was not a random assault, and there will be a substantial police presence in the area in the days ahead.”

He further urged individuals who might have information about the attack or possess CCTV footage in the area to contact the authorities promptly.

Citizens with information are encouraged to reach out to the police through the website www.cambs.police.uk/report, utilize the web chat function, or call 101, quoting Operation Whitby or incident 373 of Sunday, April 12.
