Wu Yize, the newly crowned snooker world champion, has expressed his heartfelt plans to use his prize money to purchase a home and take his parents on a memorable trip. The 22-year-old clinched his first world title by defeating Shaun Murphy 10-6 at The Crucible on Monday.

Aside from winning the prestigious trophy, Wu is now in possession of a £500,000 cash prize, which he has disclosed he intends to spend on fulfilling his dreams. In an interview with SportsBoom, Wu shared, “Buy a house and take my parents traveling. There are many things I’d like to buy. My parents are the true champions. They are the source of my strength. I love them so much.”

Although he has outlined some initial plans for his winnings, Wu also mentioned his immediate priority is to get some well-deserved rest. He admitted, “I just want to have a good sleep. I was feeling the nerves throughout the full match, right now I just want to go to bed.”

Reflecting on his victory, Wu emphasized the significance of his mother in his life, especially during her health struggles. He shared, “My mum wasn’t in very good health condition for a long time. During that time we were in Sheffield, she has been in hospital a lot. She is forever a source of strength to me.” Wu expressed his gratitude towards his mother’s sacrifices and mentioned his commitment to being by her side more often in the future.

Jason Ferguson, the chairman of snooker’s governing body, commended Wu’s exceptional achievement, highlighting the dedication and hardships faced by Wu and his family. Ferguson noted the transformative moment for Wu and predicted a bright future for the young champion in the sport.
