In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about purchasing a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream after selling her family’s lakeside home. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, shares a similar aspiration to own property in Barry’s Bay, where she grew up. However, Ellie faces a surprising twist when a neighboring house is demolished to make way for a grand mansion by its new owner.
While specific details remain under wraps, it is anticipated that a compelling romance will unfold against the backdrop of the picturesque lakeside locale. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has an impressive editorial background with notable publications. Her previous works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on “Canada Reads” in 2024, championed by fashion content creator Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. Additionally, “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is set to adapt “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
