Meghan Markle set aside her royal status and clarified her preferred form of address during the initial day of her and Prince Harry’s journey to Australia.
The couple received a warm welcome from numerous well-wishers as they commenced their Australian visit by embracing children at a hospital. They engaged in taking selfies, with Meghan receiving flowers and a greeting card as they were cheered on during a visit to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Meghan later stopped by a women’s shelter before reuniting with Harry at a veterans’ museum as part of their activities on the first day of their Down Under trip.
As reported by The Telegraph, Steve Cotterill, the first Australian poet laureate at the Australian National Veterans’ Art Museum, inquired how he should address the couple. In response, Harry expressed, “However you prefer,” while Meghan suggested, “Call me Meg?” Additionally, aides at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne indicated that addressing the Sussexes as “Harry and Meghan” was acceptable, reflecting their relaxed approach following their decision to step back as senior working royals in 2020 and forfeit their HRH titles.
Their office previously stated that the four-day itinerary would concentrate on mental health, community resilience, and support for veterans and their families, alongside private meetings and special projects. The couple will engage in private commercial commitments apart from public visits, including Meghan’s appearance at a “girls’ weekend” retreat in Sydney, where VIP tickets offer a chance for a group photo with her.
Despite initial claims of a sold-out event, it was revealed that not all tickets for the retreat had been purchased. The Her Best Life podcast, organizing the retreat, announced last-minute availability, with security clearance mandatory for attendees and mobile phone use strictly prohibited.
