An individual, identified as Alan Dop, has received a court sentence for physically assaulting his wife without any provocation during a cruise they were on to celebrate their 10th anniversary. The incident occurred on a luxury Mediterranean cruise last year, where Dop kicked his wife, leading to visible bruising and swelling. Additionally, he forcefully grabbed, shook, and threw her across the room, causing further injuries to her back. The prosecutor, Elen Owen, revealed that due to being on a cruise, the victim felt helpless in seeking aid.

The assault, witnessed by the couple’s young son, unfolded within a relationship that began in 2004 and culminated in a decade-long marriage, resulting in the birth of their son. Recent years had seen Dop struggling with alcohol abuse, prompting his wife to request him to leave, to which he objected. Described as extremely abusive when intoxicated, Dop’s behavior had escalated, as recounted at the Caernarfon Crown Court.

Following the cruise incident, another altercation occurred at their residence in Gwynedd, where Dop’s inebriated state led to a confrontation when his wife tried to shield their child from witnessing his condition. Despite her attempts to avoid conflict, Dop became physically aggressive, leaving visible marks on her arm and neck. The victim managed to contact the authorities, leading to Dop’s arrest with a significantly high blood alcohol content.

During the legal proceedings, Dop attempted to shift blame onto the victim, prompting Judge Simon Mills to condemn his actions and alcohol dependency. Despite claims of remorse and previous good deeds, Dop narrowly escaped incarceration with a suspended 12-month sentence. The court also imposed a seven-year restraining order to safeguard the victim and stipulated third-party arrangements for any future contact with their child.

In conclusion, Dop’s actions have had severe repercussions on his family, necessitating legal intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of the victim and their child.
