A major airline has suddenly canceled all its summer flights, leaving passengers seeking refunds while travelers are uncertain about their upcoming vacation plans.
Beond Airlines has announced a suspension of all services between the Maldives and Europe, as well as routes via Dubai, with no expected resumption of flights until at least October.
Initially indicating a temporary pause in European routes due to the season, the situation now appears more severe. Flights across its entire network, including Middle East connections, are no longer open for booking, hinting at a complete shutdown rather than a partial adjustment.
Passengers holding confirmed reservations will receive communication within 72 hours. The airline is providing alternatives such as rebooking for winter without fees, credit valid for up to a year, or full reimbursements.
However, the airline, known for its business class-only service, quietly retracted a previous commitment from its website guaranteeing business-class rebooking on alternate airlines in case of disruptions, causing concern among customers.
Established in 2023 as a premium all-business-class carrier, the airline specialized in luxury travel between Europe and the Maldives.
Behind the scenes, mounting financial and operational challenges seem to be impacting the luxury airline, as escalating fuel costs make long-haul routes increasingly costly to operate, especially for smaller airlines with limited resources. The airline operates just two aircraft, an Airbus A319 and Airbus A321.
Online indications of change have surfaced, with the airline removing sections of its website, including customer assurance information and prior announcements regarding expansion plans.
While Beond had previously outlined ambitious growth strategies, including new destinations, several of these plans never materialized, casting doubt on its ability to resume operations after the summer break.
