Kyren Wilson faced a burglary at his residence while participating in the Championship League Snooker competition on Monday morning. Despite securing a 3-0 win over Haydon Pinhey to kick off the tournament, Wilson was unaware that his home was being targeted during his match at the Mattioli Arena.
Upon discovering the break-in, Wilson promptly pulled out of the event. The ex-snooker champion later revealed that high-end watches, jewelry, and cash designated for charity were among the stolen items.
In a statement shared on his Instagram account, Wilson disclosed the unfortunate incident, stating that valuable possessions, including watches from Cartier and Audemars Piguet, a ladies’ Rolex Datejust, and a significant blue sapphire necklace meant for his wife, were taken. Additionally, £2,000 earmarked for a donation to the BeMoreFab Children’s Cancer Charity was also stolen, intensifying the distress for his family.
Wilson urged anyone with information related to the burglary or offered the stolen items to come forward. The police have been notified, and surveillance footage is under review to aid in the investigation.
As a result of his withdrawal from the competition, Pinhey, Dylan Emery, and Michal Szubarczyk received walkovers. Wilson’s next competitive appearance will be at the Shanghai Masters, commencing on July 27.
In a separate development, it was announced that Wilson, a former world No2, will participate in a snooker exhibition event in October to raise funds for the BeMoreFab charity led by Florence Bark. The event, organized by TWSportsManagement’s Taylor Wilson, Kyren’s brother, will feature players like Stuart Bingham, Joe O’Connor, and Louis Heathcote.
Expressing his pride in supporting the charity, Wilson emphasized the importance of contributing to children’s cancer treatment and encouraged generous participation in the upcoming exhibition.
