An individual believed to be a criminal leader has been apprehended in the United Arab Emirates, and the Irish authorities have issued a statement regarding the incident.

Daniel Kinahan, a man in his forties, was taken into custody following the execution of an arrest warrant by the Irish courts concerning alleged serious organized criminal activities. The police in Ireland, known as Gardaí, have acknowledged the “detention of an Irish citizen in the United Arab Emirates.” Kinahan is suspected to be the head of the Kinahan crime syndicate.

The authorities stated that the arrest “remains within the jurisdiction of the United Arab Emirates presently,” underscoring that the “detention underscores the critical necessity for international collaboration among law enforcement agencies in combating transnational criminal activities.” The Dubai Police department verified the arrest of Kinahan on April 15.

A spokesperson for the Garda confirmed that the arrest aligns with the extradition agreement between Ireland and the UAE, declaring: “The detention of the Irish national in Dubai is under the purview of the United Arab Emirates authorities at this time. The Garda Siochana has been resolute in our commitment to pursuing individuals allegedly engaged in significant organized criminal behavior, regardless of their location.

“Today’s apprehension serves as another vital indicator of the imperative need for international cooperation in law enforcement to address transnational criminal enterprises. The Garda Siochana has cultivated numerous critical international alliances as part of our endeavors to target transnational criminal groups.

“Our collaboration with the authorities in the United Arab Emirates, particularly with the Ministry of Justice at a judicial level and on a police-to-police basis, is highly valued. This partnership has received support from the Irish Government’s Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, and Department of Foreign Affairs.”

In an announcement from the Dubai government, it was conveyed: “Dubai Police, working in conjunction with the UAE Ministry of Interior, have apprehended an Irish fugitive for his purported involvement in an international criminal network. The arrest is part of the ongoing efforts to combat cross-border criminal activities.

“The arrest followed the reception of a legal dossier from Irish authorities outlining the alleged criminal acts of the suspect and his association with an international criminal syndicate.

“Based on this dossier, the Dubai Public Prosecution issued an arrest warrant to initiate legal procedures for his extradition.

“Specialized teams promptly launched extensive search and surveillance operations, resulting in the apprehension of the suspect within 48 hours of the warrant issuance.

“Dubai Police confirmed the arrest occurring on April 15, showcasing the swift response and operational readiness of the force in handling international cases. Dubai Police reiterated their dedication to supporting global endeavors to combat organized crime and pursue individuals wanted internationally.
