Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, strongly criticized Israeli settlers for their siege of a Palestinian American family’s home in the West Bank, labeling it a “horrific act of terror.” Local sources and family members reported that since Sunday, a group of settlers has been causing trouble near the residence in Qusra village, harassing the occupants and obstructing their movement despite Israeli military intervention attempts.

Qusai Abu Rida, who was barricaded in the house with his son, mentioned that they were relocated by the Israeli military but are still restricted in the area. The settlers had been targeting the residence for months before the situation escalated. Huckabee denounced the settlers’ actions as terrorism and praised the Israeli military and police for responding to their request to remove the perpetrators.

Mayor Abed Al Athem Wadi of Qusra disclosed that Israeli soldiers had evacuated six homes in the village, including three hilltop residences besieged by settlers. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the actions aimed at displacing residents. The Canadian government and other entities have criticized the expansion of settlements in the West Bank as illegal under international law.

Israeli troops have been working to restore order in the region, dismantling illegal outposts and detaining individuals involved in the violence. Journalists noted road closures leading to Qusra, reflecting a tense atmosphere. Recent incidents of settler violence have drawn condemnation from various quarters, with accusations against the Israeli government for overlooking such attacks.

Qusra, situated in a volatile area of the West Bank, has witnessed escalating tensions, including the burning of a mosque and fatal clashes in the past. The expansion of settlements, viewed as unlawful by international bodies, poses a challenge to the establishment of a Palestinian state in the region. While Palestinians aspire to include the West Bank in their future state, settlers advocate for Israeli sovereignty over the area for historical, religious, and security reasons.
