Greggs enthusiasts may soon have the option to buy sausage rolls and other baked goods from a vending machine. The bakery chain’s executives are considering implementing “unattended retail solutions,” which may involve both automated and manual vending methods. While no specific launch date or locations have been disclosed yet, this development follows the successful introduction of three smaller Greggs Bitesize shops.
In its recent financial report, Greggs stated that its pre-tax profits decreased by 17.9% to £167.4 million for the year ending December 27, compared to the previous year. This decline was attributed in part to challenging market conditions and unusually warm weather. Despite this, Greggs managed to open 121 net new stores in 2025, expanding its total number of locations to 2,739.
The company aims to open approximately 120 more stores this year, with long-term plans to exceed 3,000 shops across the UK. Greggs’ CEO, Roisin Currie, expressed optimism about a potential increase in consumer spending due to reduced inflationary pressures in the upcoming months. However, she acknowledged that the market remains tough for customers, anticipating another challenging year ahead.
Greggs recently announced that there are no further price hikes planned for the year, after a recent increase in the price of items like the sausage roll and latte. Despite some price adjustments, certain meal deals, including the breakfast deal at £3.15, have remained unchanged. Additionally, the company shared that over 20,000 customers have visited The Golden Flake Tavern, Greggs’ first-ever pub located in Newcastle’s Fenwick department store, where popular items include the Sausage Roll & Mash dish, as well as Gosforth 1939 Lager and Pink Jammie Fizz cocktails.
