A young girl, who was vacationing with her family, is currently in critical condition in a hospital after reportedly being left unattended in a hotel pool in Rhodes.
Authorities stated that the child was discovered around midday at a hotel in Lardos, located on the Greek island. Surveillance footage allegedly shows the toddler entering the pool alone, and approximately ten minutes later, a sunbather noticed the child in the water.
An individual, believed to be a British doctor, leaped into action to assist the three-year-old girl. She pulled the child out of the water and immediately initiated life-saving CPR while emergency services were contacted. Medical personnel worked to stabilize the girl before transporting her to Rhodes Hospital in a critical state.
Subsequently, she was airlifted to the University Hospital in Heraklion, Crete, where neurosurgeons conducted a procedure to alleviate pressure on her brain. The child is currently receiving care in the intensive care unit.
Rhodes police announced the arrest of the girl’s uncle, who was responsible for supervising her, and the travel agency manager, who oversaw hotel guests, two hours after the incident. Both individuals have been formally charged after appearing before the Rhodes District Court Prosecutor.
Rhodes Hospital Director, Michalis Sokorelos, mentioned that the child had likely been submerged in the water for an extended period and displayed no responsiveness upon arrival at the hospital.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office is providing assistance to the girl’s family and maintaining communication with Greek authorities.
