Former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, aged 68, is facing charges related to sexual offences against seven women. The allegations include four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault dating back to incidents between 1983 and 2016.

The Metropolitan Police disclosed the charges today, detailing the accusations against Westwood. Among the reported incidents, one occurred in 1983 involving the indecent assault of a 17-year-old girl in Fulham, London. Another incident in 1986 involved the alleged sexual assault of a woman in her 20s in Vauxhall, London.

Further allegations suggest that between 1995 and 1996, a female aged 17-18 was reportedly raped and sexually assaulted in London. Similar incidents were reported in 2000-2001 involving a female of the same age group. Additionally, in 2010, a woman in her 20s was allegedly raped in London, and another woman in her 20s was reportedly sexually assaulted in Stroud during the same year.

In 2016, a woman in her 20s was allegedly sexually assaulted in Finchley, London. These charges encompass accusations from seven different women.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police Service emphasized the courage required to report such allegations. He urged anyone with information or who may have been affected by the case to come forward, assuring confidentiality and support from dedicated investigators. Support is also available through the independent charity, Rape Crisis.

Westwood’s radio career began at LWR and progressed to Kiss FM, which he co-owned. He later joined Capital FM in 1987 before transitioning to the BBC in 1994 to host a rap show on Radio 1. His tenure at Radio 1Xtra lasted until 2012, followed by a late-night rap show until 2013. Westwood departed from the BBC in September 2013 due to scheduled changes.
