Passengers found themselves in a difficult situation as a significant number of flights were canceled by four major airlines, causing disruptions and delays. Nearly 500 flights were affected by delays from Capital Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, China Eastern Airlines, and Pakistan International Airlines, according to reports from Travel and Tour World.

The airlines collectively had to cancel 23 flights at various airports in Asia, including Shanghai Pudong and Islamabad International Airport. These cancellations led to a cascade of issues for passengers, including missed connections and lengthy disruptions. Overcrowded waiting areas and long queues were reported at airports in Shanghai and Beijing.

In a separate incident, Aer Lingus is anticipated to cancel approximately 500 flights due to mandatory maintenance on their aircraft. An Aer Lingus spokesperson explained that the airline had to adjust its summer schedule due to the maintenance requirements, with most affected customers being accommodated on the same day.

Ryanair’s chief, Michael O’Leary, cautioned about potential flight cancellations during the summer due to the escalating cost of jet fuel. He mentioned the possibility of canceling a percentage of flights in the coming months. O’Leary humorously suggested blaming Trump rather than the airlines if flights were canceled.

Meanwhile, Air Canada announced the suspension of services to New York’s JFK International Airport over the summer due to jet fuel shortages caused by the conflict in Iran. Flights from Toronto and Montreal to JFK will halt on June 1 and resume on October 25, with services to LaGuardia and Newark continuing as usual. Affected customers will be contacted with alternative travel options by Air Canada.

The decision to adjust flight schedules was made in response to the doubled jet fuel prices since the start of the Iran conflict, affecting the profitability of certain routes. The Montreal-based carrier emphasized the need for schedule adjustments to align with the economic challenges posed by the fuel price surge.
