A tragic fire engulfed a popular Tenerife vacation hotel while a 23-year-old guest fell to his death from a third-floor balcony. The incident occurred at the well-known Melia Costa Atlantis Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz, forcing around 490 guests, including British visitors, to evacuate. The guests were seen outside the hotel as firefighters worked swiftly to control the blaze that started in a room where the young tourist fell from the balcony.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, with initial reports suggesting that a mattress in the room may have ignited. Emergency services confirmed the fatality and fire in the early hours of the morning, mentioning that the first emergency calls came in just after 9 pm reporting the hotel fire on Venezuela Avenue in Puerto de la Cruz.
The deceased individual, identified as a 23-year-old guest, succumbed to his injuries after the fall. The fire was contained and extinguished, affecting only one room in the hotel. The hotel management has not issued any official statements on social media regarding the incident. Thankfully, all evacuated guests were unharmed and were allowed to return to their rooms soon after the evacuation.
This tragic event follows a similar incident earlier this year, where a British teenager tragically lost his life after falling from a hotel in Spain. The 19-year-old tourist passed away instantly in the fall at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel on July 14, located in the party hotspot of San Antonio, Ibiza, where another tourist had also recently lost his life.
