Police at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville issued a warning about a potential ‘active shooter’ on campus. The alert was prompted by reports of a gun at Shannon Library, but upon investigation, no evidence of an attack was found. Normal campus operations have resumed, and authorities have initiated an inquiry into the false report.

After a thorough investigation, the University of Virginia has given the ‘all clear’ following earlier concerns of a shooter on campus. An examination into the erroneous report is underway as law enforcement found no indication of a threat or attack.

Assistance from the Charlottesville police and fire departments is aiding campus police in their probe, according to Kyle Ervin, a spokesperson for the city. The safety protocol ‘run-hide-fight’ is being followed, a guideline developed by the City of Houston and endorsed by federal agencies like the US Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to help people in active shooter situations.

Police are currently investigating at Shannon Library, although no evidence of an active attacker has been discovered so far. While an emergency alert had warned of an ‘active attacker’ with a gun near the library, authorities continue to advise students and staff to adhere to safety procedures.

The UVA Department of Safety and Security issued the initial alert about the ‘active attacker’ near Shannon Library. Despite ongoing investigations, there is currently no evidence of an attack, according to university spokesperson Brian Coy.
