Constitution Hill showcased his prowess as a top-class Flat horse with a victory at Kempton Park on Wednesday evening, marking his second triumph in this new domain. Teaming up with renowned jockey Ryan Moore, the nine-year-old, a former Champion Hurdle winner, competed in a 1m4f novice stakes race on the all-weather track.

After an impressive debut in February, Constitution Hill was heavily favored to claim the £6,480 prize in the Virgin Bet-sponsored event. A sizable crowd gathered at Kempton Park to witness Nicky Henderson’s talented hurdler transition successfully to the Flat discipline.

Facing a crucial juncture in his jumping career following a series of falls in recent races, Constitution Hill transitioned to the Flat scene just over a month ago under Henderson’s guidance. The horse’s performance at the SBK Road To Cheltenham Novice Stakes at Southwell paved the way for his shift in focus towards Flat racing.

Returning to familiar territory at Kempton Park, where he had previously excelled in the Christmas Hurdle, Constitution Hill impressed the 1,477-strong crowd with a dominant display. Under the guidance of Moore, the horse secured victory as the 1-7 favorite, showcasing his potential for further improvement in future races.

Expressing delight at Constitution Hill’s successful transition, Henderson emphasized the importance of the horse’s enjoyment in his new discipline. The trainer highlighted the horse’s comfort at distances up to 12 furlongs and expressed optimism about his potential in the Flat racing arena.

Reflecting on the crowd’s enthusiastic response, Henderson acknowledged the challenges faced by Constitution Hill in recent years and expressed gratitude for the support shown by racing fans. The trainer emphasized the horse’s newfound enjoyment in his racing pursuits and the positive impact of finding a new avenue for his talents.
