Ben Stokes has been removed from the England squad for the upcoming second test against New Zealand following an investigation into a nightclub incident. Reports indicate that Stokes was involved in an altercation with Gus Atkinson, a security personnel, and a Saracens rugby player. The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Stokes has been relieved of his captaincy and omitted from the squad while the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the ECB stated that Stokes and Atkinson will not be considered for selection in the Rothesay 2nd Test at the Kia Oval on June 17 due to the ongoing inquiry. Joe Root, the Yorkshire batter, will serve as the Interim Captain in Stokes’ absence, with Jofra Archer and Jordan Cox being added to the squad.

This decision has resulted in vice-captain Harry Brook being bypassed, as Root assumes the captaincy role. The ECB is currently looking into a breach of team protocols after the first Men’s Test against New Zealand, with Stokes and Atkinson reportedly present at a nightclub during an incident. The Cricket Regulator has been notified, and further updates will be provided in due course.

Saracens also issued a statement acknowledging an incident involving one of their academy players on Sunday evening. The club is gathering information and liaising with relevant authorities for a thorough review and appropriate action. No additional comments will be made at this time.

Following a 115-run victory in the first test against New Zealand, England is gearing up for the next match at The Oval scheduled to commence next week. The revised squad includes Joe Root as the Captain, along with players from various counties like Sussex, Hampshire, and Yorkshire among others.
