An individual suspected of wielding a bladed weapon was apprehended by authorities for allegedly assaulting police officers and members of the public outside Bradford College earlier today. Security personnel at the college initially restrained the suspect before West Yorkshire Police officers intervened and placed him under arrest. The man, in his 30s, is being held on suspicion of racially-aggravated assault and damaging a police vehicle.
The victims, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, were promptly taken to a hospital for treatment. A small gardening tool was confiscated at the scene by the police. Detective Inspector Ailis Coates emphasized the importance of any footage captured by witnesses to aid in the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident, police in Greater Manchester responded to reports of a potential firearm sighting in the Shevington area, prompting a brief lockdown at Shevington High School. However, after thorough searches, no weapon was found, and the police confirmed the area to be safe. The school administration commended the effective handling of the situation and assured parents of the safety measures in place.
