Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player with serious injuries earlier this month, according to police reports.

Teddy Allen was hospitalized after being assaulted at the nightclub in the early hours of August 3, as confirmed by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The three individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the venue, were arrested on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings, police announced in a news release on Thursday.

Although the specific nightclub was not disclosed by authorities, it was revealed to be located on Main Street, situated between Portage and William avenues. Allen, who has undergone medical examinations and received treatment, is currently recuperating at home, as mentioned in a statement released by the team on Thursday.

Expressing his sentiments on the assault, Allen stated, “The incident should never have occurred and should not happen to anyone under any circumstances.” He added, “In my life, whenever I have been knocked down, I always rise back up, and that is precisely what I intend to do now.”

Individuals who may have information regarding the incident, including any dashcam footage, security recordings, or cellphone videos taken at the time of the assault, are urged to contact the Winnipeg police major crimes unit at 204-986-6219 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or online.

CBC News has made attempts to reach out to the Sea Bears for their input on the matter.
