Families are eagerly switching rainy days for sunny escapes in a surge of booking activity during the upcoming half-term holiday, according to a prominent travel company. On the Beach, a vacation specialist, has observed a significant increase in reservations for late May vacations, with a spike of up to 40% in recent weeks. Experts predict a mixed bag of weather for the half-term period, including warm temperatures but also the likelihood of heavy showers.

In addition to seeking better weather, families may find better deals by traveling during the May half term. On the Beach suggests that a week-long holiday during this period could cost approximately £577 less compared to the same week in August.

Various travel agencies and airlines have noticed a trend of last-minute bookings due to financial concerns and uncertainties related to the Middle East conflict and delays at EU airports because of new border controls. Consequently, companies are offering larger discounts to encourage travelers to finalize their plans.

Caspar Nelson, an expert at On the Beach, emphasized the aversion families have towards a rainy half term, prompting them to embark on spontaneous searches for sunshine destinations like Spain, Turkey, and Greece. With an uptick in bookings already witnessed in recent weeks, a further rush is expected as the half-term weather forecast becomes clearer. The choice for many is between enduring drizzle at home or enjoying guaranteed sun by a poolside.

Among the attractive late May deals offered by On the Beach are options like a six-night all-inclusive stay at LIVVO Jandia Golf in Fuerteventura, Spain, costing £393 per person, a five-night all-inclusive package at BLUESEA Los Fiscos in Lanzarote, Spain, priced at £253 per person, a similar package at Miarosa Konakli Garden in Antalya, Turkey, for £355 per person, and a seven-night all-inclusive stay at Villamarina Club in Costa Dorada, Spain, priced at £495 per person.
