British travelers planning to jet off for a sun-filled holiday during the upcoming May half-term are being advised to take note of airport adjustments. With a surge in the number of holidaymakers expected to travel abroad, airports are anticipated to experience heightened activity. To avoid any inconvenience, airlines are urging travelers to arrive at the airport well in advance to facilitate the check-in process, pass through security, and locate their designated gate.

The implementation of the European Union’s (EU) new Entry/Exit System (EES) has led to extended queues, delays, and instances of missed flights at various European and UK airports. In light of this, TUI has cautioned vacationers about alterations to airport security protocols at select UK airports, introducing new restrictions.

In a recent travel advisory, TUI highlighted the importance of adhering to current security guidelines until all UK airports have completed the installation of new scanners to comply with the revised security regulations. Travelers are encouraged to stay informed about airport-specific security measures, such as the 100ml liquid restriction, by visiting TUI’s airport security webpage or the relevant information page for their departure airport.

Several airports, including Belfast International, Belfast City, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, and London Heathrow, have already discontinued the 100ml liquid rule, enabling passengers to carry larger quantities through security checkpoints. Additionally, following the introduction of the EU’s EES, TUI issued a travel alert to assist customers in preparing for their upcoming trips and minimizing any potential disruptions.

To ensure a smooth travel experience, TUI advises passengers to anticipate longer queues at certain airports, especially during peak travel periods. Travelers are advised to allocate extra time for border control procedures, keep essential medications in their carry-on bags, proceed directly to passport control upon departing the EU after dropping off their luggage, and consider carrying additional water for comfort during the journey.
