Apple has commenced its annual WWDC Developers Conference at its futuristic headquarters in Cupertino, unveiling the upcoming iOS 27 set to replace iOS 26 this fall. The new operating system will introduce enhanced customization options for the Liquid Glass interface, improved file search capabilities, and a more intelligent Siri that can assist with tasks like composing emails, scheduling events, and booking concert tickets.
Notably, a feature called CPU Scheduler is expected to optimize the responsiveness of older iPhones following the installation of iOS 27. Apple has also promised faster performance across all devices, with iPhone and iPad apps launching up to 30% quicker, photos loading up to 70% faster after capture, and AirDrop transfers speeding up by up to 80%.
In a move to cater to families with children using connected devices, Apple will introduce a suite of new features aimed at simplifying parental control over content access, communication permissions, and usage timings for apps. The addition of functionalities like “Ask to Browse,” “Time Allowances,” and the new Screen Time feature is set to ease concerns when handing iPhones to kids.
Apple’s Vice President of Health and Fitness, Sumbul Desai, M.D., emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering users and ensuring their safety through innovative technology. The upcoming iOS 27 update will incorporate age-based protections and tools to foster healthy digital habits within families.
While the complete list of changes is yet to be unveiled, Apple has confirmed that all iPhones currently running iOS 26 will be eligible for the iOS 27 update. The compatible devices for iOS 27 include a wide range of models from iPhone 11 to the latest iPhone SE (3rd generation).
