Barry and Eddie Hearn have achieved a milestone of over £1 billion with their sports media enterprise. They are the owners of Matchroom Sports, a company that operates in the realms of boxing, snooker, and darts.
Barry’s journey began in the 1970s, where he ventured into snooker, representing the legendary six-time world champion Steve Davis. In 1982, at the age of 77, Barry founded Matchroom, laying the foundation for the family business. Eddie, his 46-year-old son, has significantly contributed to expanding the empire, particularly gaining recognition in the boxing world.
Matchroom has managed renowned athletes such as Frank Bruno, Chris Eubank Sr, and Lennox Lewis, but it is most notably associated with Anthony Joshua. Barry, who also serves as the chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation, played a pivotal role in elevating the popularity of darts and acquiring the World Snooker Tour in 2010.
Their collective success has propelled them to the third position on The Sunday Times rich list in UK sports, with a combined net worth of £1.035 billion. This places them behind only Bernie Ecclestone (£2bn) and David and Victoria Beckham (£1.185bn).
Among the rich list rankings, F1 driver Sir Lewis Hamilton occupies the fifth spot with £435 million, followed by golfer Rory McIlroy in seventh place with £325 million. Anthony Joshua, Matchroom’s star client, stands at eighth with an estimated worth of £240 million, surpassing Tyson Fury in ninth with £162 million. England captain Harry Kane and tennis icon Sir Andy Murray share the tenth spot, each with £110 million.
While Barry laid the groundwork for the Matchroom empire, Eddie has played an instrumental role in its growth. In a 2020 article for the Big Issue, Eddie emphasized the drive instilled in him by his father, pushing him to surpass previous achievements and create his own path of success.
