A prominent contender for Royal Ascot faced an unexpected setback while training for her upcoming race.
Lady Of Camelot, a sprinter trained in Australia by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, has achieved significant success, including a win in the 2024 Golden Slipper and earnings close to £3 million.
Despite plans announced months ago to compete at Royal Ascot this year, Lady Of Camelot had to withdraw from the Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane, Queensland, and subsequently from Royal Ascot due to an injury sustained during a routine beach exercise.
The local stewards reported that Lady Of Camelot suffered injuries to her near foreleg from a stingray encounter during the beach swim. The mare received treatment from the stable veterinarian, with further updates pending.
Go Bloodstock Australia, the owner, confirmed Lady Of Camelot’s withdrawal on Instagram, stating that she was stung by a stingray and is currently under observation at a specialist veterinary hospital. Consequently, her participation in the Brisbane Winter Carnival and international campaigns has been terminated.
A team spokesperson expressed disappointment over the situation, emphasizing Lady Of Camelot’s exceptional abilities and well-being as the top priority.
Lady Of Camelot was not the only Australian-trained sprinter to be ruled out for Royal Ascot, as Generosity, trained by Chris Waller, will also not be making the journey. However, Joliestar and Overpass, among others, are still set to represent their trainers at the prestigious event.
