Donald Trump reportedly faced exclusion from the Situation Room by military advisors during a critical rescue mission in Iran. The decision to keep the US President out of the meeting was allegedly driven by concerns regarding his temperament.

The exclusion of Trump from the command room occurred during a high-stakes operation to extract a downed American airman in Iran. The Wall Street Journal disclosed that senior administration officials feared that Trump’s temperament could potentially compromise the mission.

Following the downing of a US jet by Iranian forces, Trump was described as spending hours berating aides in the West Wing, drawing parallels to the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. Citing sources familiar with the matter, Trump expressed concerns that such incidents could impact his political standing, referencing former President Jimmy Carter’s electoral loss following a similar crisis.

The incident unfolded on April 3 when an F-15 jet was shot down over Iran, prompting the urgent rescue mission. While one crew member was quickly rescued, the other remained behind enemy lines for over 24 hours before being successfully extracted.

Reportedly, Trump’s outburst at aides continued upon receiving news of the missing airmen, with White House officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, engaging in Situation Room discussions for updates over the next day. Though Trump was not physically present in the room, a senior administration official stated that he was kept informed at key moments via phone calls.

The decision to exclude Trump from the live updates was based on concerns that his impatience could be counterproductive to the operation. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that despite his exclusion, Trump remained a steady leader during the crisis.

Amid efforts to rescue the second airman, Trump was briefed on the successful extraction on the evening of April 4. A senior administration official highlighted the pivotal role of the CIA in pinpointing the airman’s location, describing the operation as a challenging but successful endeavor aided by the agency’s capabilities.

In the end, the rescue mission was accomplished, with a brave American airman safely recovered.
