Luke Littler secured his second PDC World Championship title with a commanding 7-1 victory over Gian van Veen at Alexandra Palace. Despite losing the first set, the 18-year-old rallied to defeat his 23-year-old opponent and claim the prestigious Sid Worrell Trophy.

During the final match, Littler faced an unexpected interruption when a wasp momentarily disrupted his focus. Additionally, organizers had to replace the dartboard due to stains from Van Veen’s blood, adding a unique twist to the event.

As the champion, Littler is set to receive a substantial prize of £1 million, a significant increase from the previous year’s £500,000 award. Meanwhile, Van Veen will take home a respectable £400,000 for his commendable performance in reaching the final.

The awards ceremony saw cycling icon Sir Chris Hoy present Littler and Van Veen with their trophies. Notably, Hoy, a father of two, is currently battling prostate cancer.

With this victory, Littler joins an elite group of players as the fourth individual in history to achieve consecutive world darts titles, following the footsteps of legends like Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis, and Gary Anderson.

Expressing his excitement, Littler praised the event hosts and reflected on his journey to victory, acknowledging the challenges he faced during the competition. He also paid tribute to fellow athlete Anthony Joshua and emphasized the life-changing impact of the win on his career and ranking.

Lauded for his exceptional performance, Littler’s dominance on the darts board impressed former champion John Part, who described him as an extraordinary player with remarkable skills. In contrast, Van Veen admitted to disappointment over his performance, acknowledging Littler’s superior gameplay and his own missed opportunities during the match.

As fans speculate on Littler’s future as a darts legend, the young champion’s back-to-back triumphs have solidified his position as a top player in the sport, earning him praise and admiration from both fans and peers.
