Lloyds Bank customers are no longer able to deposit checks at the Post Office as part of recent changes. This adjustment also impacts Halifax and Bank of Scotland, both under the Lloyds Banking Group umbrella. However, customers can still withdraw and deposit cash at Post Office branches.

This decision affects the approximately 28 million customers collectively held by these banks. The option to deposit checks was removed last month despite the announcement of more bank branch closures. Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed the closure of 95 additional bank branches between May 2021 and March 2027, comprising 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax, and 11 Bank of Scotland locations.

Over the past decade, Lloyds Banking Group has closed 1,470 sites. In response to ensure access to cash across the country, the cash access network Link has designated 14 new locations to host banking hubs. These shared spaces, operated by staff from various banks on different days, offer services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments.

A spokesperson from Lloyds mentioned that most customers now prefer using the bank’s app to deposit checks by simply taking a photo on their phone. For those who still require a physical deposit option, a new freepost check service has been introduced.

While the exact number of staff affected by the closures was not specified, Lloyds assured that all employees at the closing branches will be offered roles at other sites or within different areas of the business. Currently, Lloyds is in the midst of finalizing the closure of 49 more sites by October, following 136 closures announced about a year ago. Once all planned closures are implemented, Lloyds will have 610 branches remaining.

A Lloyds spokeswoman emphasized the importance of providing customers with flexibility in banking methods. The bank offers various options including apps, 24/7 messaging services, community bankers, and access to all Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branches to cater to diverse customer needs.
