MP Karl Turner, a vocal critic of the Government, has had the Labour whip withdrawn by Chief Whip Jonathan Reynolds. This action follows a series of warnings given to Mr. Turner for his disrespectful comments towards fellow Labour MPs and confrontational behavior in the Commons chamber. Mr. Turner claims he was not officially notified of the whip suspension before it was made public.

Known for his opposition to the Government’s proposal to eliminate jury trials for certain offenses, Mr. Turner has also been openly critical of Keir Starmer and Downing Street. Recently, he commented on the alleged theft of former PM chief of staff Morgan McSweeney’s phone, suggesting it was not stolen without providing evidence.

In response to his suspension, Mr. Turner emphasized his commitment to defending jury trials, calling them a fundamental aspect of democracy. He expressed a desire to reconcile with his Party, the Prime Minister, and the Government, stressing his dedication to upholding principles he believes in.

The decision to strip Mr. Turner of the Labour whip is expected to undergo a review in the future.
