Anthony Joshua has made a comeback to the boxing gym almost three weeks after being in a fatal car accident in Nigeria. The former two-time heavyweight champion was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that crashed into a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos, resulting in the tragic deaths of two of his close friends and teammates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua, who sustained minor injuries, attended the funerals of his friends in London on January 4.

While vacationing and visiting family in Nigeria, Joshua had recently defeated YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul before the accident. After receiving hospital treatment and being discharged on New Year’s Eve, there were speculations about his future in boxing. However, Joshua shared pictures on Snapchat showing him back in the gym, engaging in workouts as a form of “mental strength therapy.” He was seen doing various exercises, including lower leg workouts, using a stationary bike, and swimming.

Despite reports from Joshua’s uncle suggesting that the boxer planned to retire following the crash, Mirror Fighting has learned that Joshua has not made a final decision about his boxing career. The driver of the car, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, who was charged over the crash, was released on bail after being charged with various offenses related to the incident.

In a recent interview, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn emphasized that there have been no discussions about Joshua’s future in boxing. Hearn acknowledged the need for Joshua to take time to recover from the traumatic event before making any decisions. He stressed that Joshua’s well-being and recovery are the main priorities, and any future decisions about his boxing career will come directly from Joshua himself. Hearn expressed support for Joshua during this challenging time and reiterated that Joshua’s voice will be the only one guiding his future in the sport.
