Carlos Alcaraz made history by defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final, becoming the youngest player in the Open era to achieve a career Grand Slam victory. Despite losing the first set 6-2, Alcaraz rallied to win the next three sets 6-2, 6-3, 7-5, securing his first title in Melbourne.

At 22 years old, Alcaraz had previously won each of the other three Grand Slam tournaments twice but had faced setbacks in Australia. However, this year, he overcame his past quarter-final exits, including a defeat by Djokovic last year, and advanced to his first final.

In a revengeful victory over Djokovic, Alcaraz claimed the title in over three hours, breaking Rafael Nadal’s record in the Open era. Alcaraz achieved this milestone at the age of 22 years and 272 days, surpassing both Nadal and Rod Laver’s previous records.

With seven Grand Slam singles titles to his name, Alcaraz has now surpassed Bjorn Borg as the youngest player to reach this milestone. Additionally, his latest win places him ahead of Jannik Sinner, who would need to win all remaining Grand Slam events this year to catch up to Alcaraz.

Djokovic, who aimed to secure his 25th Grand Slam singles title and become the oldest winner in the Open Era, fell short in the final despite a strong start. He paid tribute to Alcaraz for his historic achievement and also acknowledged the presence of his long-time rival, Nadal, at the event.

Alcaraz’s victory not only reshapes the tennis record books but also sets the stage for an exciting future in the sport.
