A specialist in theme parks has outlined strategies for avoiding long lines during school holiday periods.

Several popular theme parks, such as Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, and Legoland, have reopened after the winter break, with Thorpe Park also welcoming visitors from March 27. With the Easter and summer vacations approaching, these parks are anticipating their busiest times.

Theme parks have always been a go-to option for entertaining kids and providing a fun-filled day out for the whole family, offering a variety of rides and attractions. However, the challenge remains in navigating through the queues, especially on weekends and holidays.

To help visitors make the most of their theme park experience, Oliver Brendon, the CEO of AttractionTickets.com, has shared five expert tips to beat the queues effectively.

According to Oliver, strategic planning is key to maximizing your day at the park. He advises creating a list of the most popular rides, prioritizing them, and heading to the top-ranked ride as soon as the park opens, regardless of its location within the park.

Additionally, Oliver suggests taking advantage of the fact that most visitors follow the park map in a linear fashion, resulting in overcrowding in specific areas. By starting from the farthest point and working backward, guests can often find shorter queues early in the day, allowing them to enjoy major rides before mid-morning congestion sets in.

Flexibility is another valuable tool for visitors living near a park. Monitoring the weather forecast can lead to spontaneous visits on unexpectedly quiet days. Rainy forecasts may deter crowds, providing an opportunity for a less crowded experience. Moreover, light rain typically does not affect most rides’ operation.

On busy days, Oliver recommends utilizing single rider queues for faster access to popular rides, especially for couples, older children, or groups willing to ride separately. These queues are designed to fill empty seats, reducing wait times significantly.

Lastly, choosing where to sit on a ride can enhance the experience. The back row is ideal for thrill-seekers seeking intense drops and airtime, while the front row offers a smoother ride with better views. Guests should communicate their seating preferences to ride operators for possible accommodations.

By implementing these insider tips, visitors can navigate theme parks more efficiently and make the most of their day out.
