The TV market in the UK is primarily dominated by Sky and Freeview, but a strong competitor, Freely, emerged in 2024 and has quickly gained popularity. With over one million households already onboard, Freely offers more than 50 live channels without the need for an aerial or satellite dish.
A recent development from Freely is the introduction of Freely Spotlight Channels, providing additional entertainment options at no extra cost. These channels can be accessed through a standard Wi-Fi connection and will be featured on channel 31, as well as channels 90 to 99, including compatibility with CTV OS partners on Freely-enabled devices.
V, the company behind the VIDAA OS smart TV platform used in Hisense televisions, has been announced as the launch partner for Freely Spotlight Channels. This partnership will bring a curated selection of channels to the Freely TV Guide, enhancing the visibility and credibility of selected channels within the UK’s regulated TV landscape.
While specific content details for the Spotlight Channels have not been disclosed yet, more information is expected to be revealed closer to the launch date. Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, expressed the company’s commitment to providing long-term value and creating new opportunities for partners while ensuring free and reliable TV content is easily accessible for UK audiences in the streaming era.
For those unfamiliar with Freely, it is operated by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat but offers a unique approach by delivering all content through broadband internet, eliminating the need for traditional antennas or satellite dishes. Users only require a compatible TV or set-top box and a stable Wi-Fi connection to access over 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live television.
