London’s latest fashion event has garnered accolades for elevating African fashion to new heights, following the conclusion of Paris Fashion Week. The showcase featured striking African-inspired garments crafted by emerging designers, accompanied by a vibrant Afrobeat music runway. Renowned luxury designer Veekee James, a Forbes Under 30 honoree, graced the event at The InterContinental London, Greenwich over the weekend.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the increasing recognition of African fashion on a global scale, Veekee emphasized the hard work put into showcasing their talent worldwide. She highlighted the continuous evolution of African creativity, not only in fashion but in various spheres. The event, organized by RAFT X, encompassed a diverse range of activities such as a runway presentation, a talent competition akin to X-Factor with a substantial cash prize, and networking opportunities with businesses like Puff Puff Ministry, a British-Nigerian food company specializing in pastry delicacies.

RAFT X, a newly established annual affair dedicated to celebrating arts, culture, and community, was commended by talent show judge DJ Abass for its role in amplifying African culture. The winner of the talent show, spoken-word artist Jessica Edgar, known as Poetess Jess, expressed her gratitude for the recognition and platform provided by the event.

Reflecting on the event’s success, radio presenter Tolu Adepegba, also a talent show judge, lauded the growing influence of African culture globally, emphasizing its richness in traditions and arts. Harvesters UK, the organizing entity behind RAFT X, led by Pastor Dayo Ogunrombi, described the event as a cultural extravaganza that empowered talents to shine. Pastor Ogunrombi expressed aspirations for hosting a larger-scale RAFT X next year, with increased participation from brands and sponsors to further promote talent and creativity.
