A renowned theme park, in operation for over a century, is located just a short two-hour journey from the UK.

Around the world, numerous amusement parks cater to families seeking entertainment, offering a variety of attractions tailored to different tastes, from thrilling rides for adrenaline seekers to kid-friendly experiences featuring beloved TV characters. With something for everyone, these parks guarantee an enjoyable time for all ages.

Among the long-standing theme parks globally, Liseberg in Gothenburg, Sweden, stands out as it was recently recognized as the ‘world’s top theme park’ by Blooloop, a renowned visitor attractions network.

The Swedish park, which debuted in May 1923, remains popular, drawing in approximately three million visitors annually. Boasting 40 rides and attractions, including the high-speed wooden roller coaster Balder and the thrilling Valkyria with its dramatic 50-meter vertical drop, Liseberg offers a diverse array of experiences for its guests.

Noteworthy attractions at Liseberg include Valkyria, Europe’s longest dive coaster featuring a breathtaking underground tunnel descent at 105km/h, and AtmosFear, Europe’s highest free-fall ride reaching speeds of 110km/h, both catering to daredevils seeking adrenaline-pumping thrills.

In anticipation of its 100th anniversary in 2023, Liseberg introduced new attractions such as the Luna coaster and the Grand Curiosa Hotel. Additionally, the upcoming StormvÃ¥g ride and the planned Oceana waterpark, boasting an array of thrilling water attractions, aim to enhance the park’s offerings further.

Situated on a hillside in Gothenburg, Liseberg features convenient escalators to assist visitors in navigating its hilly terrain. As Scandinavia’s largest amusement park, it offers affordable admission starting from £7.60 (SEK 95), providing access to a range of entertainment options.

Travel from the UK to Gothenburg takes under two hours, with flights available for as low as £13 one-way, making Liseberg easily accessible for visitors. The park’s proximity to Gothenburg airport, just a 20-minute drive away, ensures a quick transition from arrival to enjoying the park’s attractions.

For accommodation, visitors can opt for the on-site Grand Curiosa Hotel or choose from nearby lodging options, such as cabins or bed & breakfast facilities at Lisebergsbyn. With Gothenburg’s city center a short 10-minute public transport ride away, exploring the city alongside a visit to the acclaimed Liseberg theme park offers a well-rounded travel experience.
