Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have spoken out following their disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Norris finished in second place behind Max Verstappen, while Piastri came in fourth. However, both drivers were disqualified due to their cars failing post-race technical checks, specifically due to excessive skid-block wear.
The FIA confirmed that this disqualification has impacted the ongoing title race, as Norris now leads Piastri and Verstappen by 24 points with two races left in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Norris expressed his frustration at losing valuable points, attributing it to car issues and emphasizing the team’s focus on delivering a strong performance in the upcoming races.
Piastri also expressed disappointment at the disqualification, highlighting the need to reset and refocus for the final two rounds. McLaren issued an apology to the drivers, acknowledging the breach of technical regulations and explaining the unexpected mechanical issues that led to the disqualification.
FIA scrutineers found that the skid thickness beneath the McLaren cars was below the required minimum of 9mm, leading to their disqualification from the race results. The team remains committed to performing well in the remaining races of the season.
