Jake Paul’s promotional company has issued a statement in response to allegations against his upcoming opponent, Gervonta Davis. The accusations include battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping by an ex-girlfriend.
Despite the controversy, Paul and Davis are still scheduled to face off in an exhibition match in Miami on November 14. The fight, which falls outside their professional records, will have a winner declared through stoppage, or by two human judges and an AI official if it goes the distance.
Calls for the fight’s cancellation have emerged following the accusations against Davis. Reports suggested that Paul had considered Ryan Garcia as a replacement, but Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s company, has stated that no decision has been finalized.
In the released statement, Most Valuable Promotions mentioned initiating an investigation upon learning about the civil lawsuit against Gervonta Davis. The company emphasized condemning all forms of violence and vowed to handle the matter diligently and respectfully. They will decide on the next steps after a thorough review and consultation with relevant parties.
Davis has not responded to the allegations, but his trainer, Calvin Ford, dismissed them as baseless. The lawsuit accuses Davis of attacking his ex-partner at her workplace and engaging in violent behavior on multiple occasions. The ex-partner is seeking damages of $50,000 and a jury trial.
Efforts to arrange a fight between Paul and Ryan Garcia have been halted due to contractual obligations. Oscar De La Hoya clarified that Garcia’s affiliation with DAZN and Paul’s with Netflix, conflicts with their promotional contracts, making the fight unfeasible.
Paul may postpone his return to the ring to December, with previous talks linking him to heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. However, securing a deal on short notice seems improbable.
