Thousands of activists are gathering in Washington DC today for a significant anti-Trump demonstration, marking the first major protest against the president in the nation’s capital since he assumed office.

The rally comes after a series of peaceful protests held in June under the theme “No Kings,” which drew millions of Americans across thousands of cities but did not include Washington DC.

Prior to the event, some Republicans have criticized the protest, dubbing it a “Hate America” march and falsely claiming ties to terror groups. However, these allegations have been debunked.

Between the events held earlier this year in 2,100 cities and towns, an estimated 4 to 6 million Americans participated in protests against President Donald Trump’s perceived anti-democratic tendencies.

Organizers anticipate a larger turnout today, with RSVP numbers doubling following public attacks by Republicans.

The demonstrations have seen massive participation across various cities, with Senator Bernie Sanders acknowledging the historic number of individuals taking part nationwide.

Sanders emphasized the peaceful nature of the rallies and refuted claims of anti-American sentiment, stating that the protests are fueled by love for the country and a commitment to democratic principles.

Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin announced Senator Sanders’ appearance at the Washington rally, where he delivered a passionate speech calling for the preservation of democratic values.

In a separate development, the White House confirmed plans to conduct artillery testing over California, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the US Marines. The demonstration caused the temporary closure of a major highway as a safety precaution.

The protests have garnered significant support in various locations, including Atlanta, where thousands gathered for a No Kings rally. In Washington DC, popular TV host Bill Nye addressed the crowd, adding to the fervor of the demonstrations.

Protesters have expressed frustration over accusations of being unpatriotic or associated with terrorism. Many have highlighted the importance of peaceful dissent in a democratic society.

Major demonstrations also unfolded in New York, with CNN estimating “tens of thousands” in attendance. Participants voiced their concerns over various issues, including immigration policies and government actions.

The central event on the National Mall is set to commence later today, with multiple marches converging in Washington DC.

As the protests continue, the message against authoritarianism and in support of democratic principles remains a focal point for demonstrators across the country.

The rallies underscore a growing movement of civic engagement and opposition to perceived threats to democratic norms, as Americans mobilize to voice their concerns and advocate for change.
